Canada → United States → Mexico
Turn a long journey into a series of manageable days. Start with your Mexican destination, organize your documents and build a route with time for rest, weather and border formalities.
Choose a researched corridor with reliable services. Book accommodation close to the route and confirm parking for the full length of your vehicle or rig, plus pet rules. Save addresses offline and keep an earlier stop in reserve.
Ask your Canadian insurer what protection applies in the United States in both directions. Review travel medical coverage for both countries. Check current U.S. admission guidance for your citizenship and passport, and any requirements that apply to a longer stay.
Remember that U.S. road signs use miles and miles per hour, while fuel prices are quoted per U.S. gallon. Allow for time-zone changes when setting arrival times.
Keep originals together, copies separately and offline backups where appropriate. Use this as a preparation checklist, then confirm the documents required for your circumstances.
Locate the immigration office and any vehicle-permit service you need before crossing. Check their service hours separately from the crossing’s opening hours. Your destination, vehicle type and immigration status can affect the process; confirm your own requirements before departure.
Motorhomes, camper conversions, tow vehicles and trailers deserve particular attention. Describe each unit accurately when asking about permits or insurance. Plan the return procedure at the same time as your entry.

Check tires and spare, brakes, cooling system, lights and battery. For an RV or towing combination, know your loaded weight, height and length. Check your towing equipment and carry the tools and supplies appropriate to your vehicle.
Download maps before you lose service. Keep pesos and a payment backup, drinking water and essential medications accessible. Make a realistic allowance for fuel, tolls, accommodation, meals and delays.
